Customs Awards Modernization Prime System Integration Contract U.S. Customs
is long overdue for a computer upgrade and steps have now been made to
bring them closer to that objective. U.S. Customs has announced the awarding
of the Customs Modern-ization Prime Integration Contract to the "e-Customs
Partnership" with IBM Corporation being the
prime contractor. In addition to IBM, Lockheed Martin Corporation, KPMG Consulting,Computer Sciences Corporation, Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services,Booz-Allen & Hamilton, ITS Services are among the major players not tomention more than 40 other small businesses. The scope of the modernization is to include the reengineering of Customs operational processes, development of technology infra-structure, computer systems and associated software, in addition to Customs commercial, enforcement and administrative operations. Filing GST/HST Returns by Telephone You may
receive a call from the CCRA (Canada Customs & Revenue Agency).
Qualifying clients
will be given an access code, whereupon they can make a toll free call
and follow simple directions to proceed. THe service has been tested
in Atlantic Canada since May 2000 and is now being expanded so that
GST/HST TELEFILE will be aailable six days a week in all provinces and

Clothing and Textile Quotas January
1, 2002 marks the implementation of the third phase of quota elimination
under the Agreement on Textiles and Clothing. The Department of Foreign
Affairs and International Trade has confirmed that there will be no change
to the current procedures. Controlled goods leaving quota countries prior
to January 1, 2002 must be accompanied by the appropriate license or certificate.
