Windsor-Detroit Tunnel Maintenance May Cause Transport Delays

Windsor-Detroit tunnel signage.October 2, 2017

The Detroit-Windsor tunnel will undergo maintenance projects that will require a complete shutdown, leading to periods of complete closure of the tunnel.

From October 20th at 8 PM until October 30th at 5:30 AM the tunnel will be completely shut down for repairs. Following this, the tunnel will be closed Sunday through Thursday from 9 PM until 5:30 AM until June 2018. On top of this, there will also four full weekend closures of the tunnel stretching from 9 PM on Friday until Monday morning at 5:30 AM. The weekend shutdowns will occur near the beginning of the project, with the first one likely to occur on Nov. 17, 2017.

Truck drivers should be aware of these closures as they may cause increased traffic on the Ambassador Bridge, particularly during the time when there are special events in downtown-Detroit, such as football or hockey games.

You can read more about the closing on CBC and the Windsor Star.
