Farrow – an essential service

March 24, 2020

Dear valued client:

Yesterday, we advised you that international trade remains an essential service. Today, the governments of Ontario and Michigan are taking steps to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 virus, but confirmed customs brokerage and services related to supply chain to be essential.

Both governments have indicated supply chain services will remain open to provide these essential services and keep your supply chain moving during this pandemic.

In Ontario, Premier Doug Ford announced on Monday afternoon the shutdown of all non-essential services across the province in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. Farrow is exempt from this shutdown (see this link for a list of essential services in Ontario).

In Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued a “stay-at-home” order effective this morning, Tuesday March 24th, set to last until Monday, April 13th. .  Similarly, Farrow and supply chain services are considered essential in the U.S. and will remain open and working to keep your supply chain flowing during this time.

If your business operates in a province, state or municipality where such a shutdown or order has been issued, you must first identify whether your province or state has issued further guidance regarding whether your particular business is deemed to be essential or non-essential. This onus is on you make the determination as to whether or not you will remain open in accordance with your jurisdictions governmental regulations.

At the same time, we are doing our part to combat this pandemic: employees who are able to work remotely are doing so, we are looking at expanding the number of employees working remotely, and we have implemented social distancing measures.  We will attempt to keep you informed of developments as they arise.

There is good news amidst this pandemic – China and other international markets are beginning to open up after their efforts to slow the spread of the virus (read more here).

There is light at the end of the tunnel.  Stay safe, and stay tuned.

Thank you,

Grant Robinson
