Russell A. Farrow’s Commitment to the Community

Windsor – On Thursday, June 21, 2012, Russell A. Farrow Limited announced its support of and investment in an amazing community project through United Way. Through a donation of $150,000 over two years by Russell A. Farrow Limited, a refrigerated truck has been purchased to support food security in the Windsor and Essex community.

“Russell A. Farrow Limited’s partnership with United Way, The Unemployed Help Centre and the Windsor-Essex Food Bank Association will improve the quality of food in food banks and increase access to fresh food in our community,” said Lorraine Goddard, Director, Community Impact & Development for United Way. “This gift is extremely generous, and will impact the lives of thousands of individuals across our community who are in need,” she added.

This 26’ refrigerated truck will pick up and distribute tons of donated food annually from
farmers, food producers and suppliers across the region to local food banks and food
programs. An additional truck has been donated by Russell A. Farrow Limited, which will be used as a mobile food bank to deliver fresh food to families and seniors in neighbourhoods where access to a food banks is difficult due to transportation, hours of service and limited availability of fresh food.

“This gift was made in recognition of Farrow Group’s 100 Year Anniversary,” stated Rick
Farrow, CEO and Chairman, Farrow Group of Companies. “This project will increase access to food and benefit individuals, children and families who depend on food banks and food programs in Windsor-Essex. We’re extremely pleased to be able to support this critical need in our community,” he added.

In 2011, there were approximately 178,554 visits to food banks within Windsor-Essex
County. United Way and its partners have been working together to increase the
community’s access to nutritional and culturally appropriate food through the Food Security Network Strategy. In order to strengthen food security in our community, a truck was required to meet the needs of those residing in Windsor and Essex County.
